课本是老师讲课的依据，是学生学习的根本。不是说读了课本再去听课、再去复习、再去做题，而是在学习的各个阶段、各个环节都要读课本。听课前要读，预习时要想，听课后要化，复习时要翻，做题时要看。那么具体地说，如何读初中的课本呢？
课本目录妙用法
在读初中课本时，最最关键的方法就是抓住目标，读熟课本。课本有好几百页，好几十万字，这么大的信息量，如何摄取呢？显而易见，我们不能平分精力，而应集中全力，抓住关键信息。什么是课本中最关键最重要的信息呢？就是目录。下面就具体说说如何利用目录来读课本：
一是忆，就是翻开目录，看看自己是否能够根据目录，依序记忆各个章节里面的内容，回忆起其中的概念、性质、法则、公式、数量关系和解题方法等。在忆的过程中，可以边忆边把知识的要点记在草稿纸上，以加深印象。忆不起来时，再打开书，翻看有关的内容。
二是说，就是在独立回顾、记忆一番后，同学之间可以互相互述各个章节的基本知识、重点内容以及知识间的联系与区别等，以此来起到相互启发、相互补充、相互完善的作用。讲的人固然是印象深刻，听的人等于又重温了一次。
三是写，默写目录内容，看看自己是否记住了教材的主要内容，根据目录知识写下来。注意：写时不一定机械的默写目录上的几个标题，可以加上自己的归纳和创造，基本内容不错不漏即可。
四是扩，所谓扩就是要自编一个补充目录。因为教材的目录仅列出每课的名称，是一个比较粗略的目录。不妨将每课的小标题抄下来，编成一个补充目录。
课本内容精读法
课本是同学们学习和考试的依据，考试的内容都在课本里，不管出的题怎样变化，都跑不出课本这个范围。在读课本时一定要做到以下几点：
1、不要走马观花，流于形式
课本不怕读得慢，就怕只图快，不求甚解。
2．不可凭自己的感觉，挑三拣四地去读课本内容
觉得这个有可能考就读，不考的就不读。课本上每个字都是经过专家编写的，必有它的有用之处。边边角角的地方，都要读到。只有这样，才能把知识印在脑子里,落实在做题目上。
3．不要感觉文科课本才要读，理科课本不用读
数学物理化学这些理科的课本，同样需要仔细阅读。概念、公式要读，例题也要读，把例题读好了，也就读出了解题思路。
4．读课本时不要只注意大字、黑体字
无论是大字小字，还是注释、引文、图注、表格都应该读到，这些知识也非常有用。
5．不要只满足于读一两遍课本，觉得没什么可读的了
有句话说得好：书读百遍，其义自见。说的就是这个道理
二、 预 习
上了中学，功课难了，不预习可不行了。事实上就是预习了，有时候还听不懂呢。更何况不预习呢？预习究竟能够给我们的学习带来多大的好处呢？
预习的六大好处
好处一：预习可培养同学们的自学能力和独立思考能力
因为预习是自己独立的接受新知识，需要自己独立阅读和思考。这就需要有较强的逻辑思维能力。在阅读课本时，只有经过独立思考，才能够搞清思路、抓住要点，解决难点。预习时，有些地方没有弄懂，听课时就会受好奇心的驱使而格外得留心，一旦理解，印象就极为深刻了。有时在预习时，自己认为已经明白的内容，听课时还会发现自己尚未完全理解，常引发进一步的思考，甚至会发现新的不理解的问题。这对深化学习和提高理解能力是非常有效的。
